Advice before purchasing furniture
Beside aesthetic value and functionality, special attention needs to be paid to details. Wood joints are indicators of precision or imprecision in manufacturing, which gives a general impression of the quality of manufacturer's work. The back side of furniture needs to be treated and the sides should be made of wood or thicker plywood board, which can be determined simply by touch. Stable furniture assures safety as well as durability, since everyday use shortens the lifespan of unstable furniture faster. The weight of a product tells a lot about the materials it is made of, as artificial materials (e.g. chipboard) are far lighter than natural wood.
Wood as natural material
Wood is a natural material and as a product of nature, each piece is different from the others. Minimal differences in color or wood texture are inevitable. Perfect texture and color are signs of artificial materials, which removes the uniqueness and warm feeling provided by furniture made of natural materials. At Stilles, wood is carefully chosen and different textures are then combined into visually attractive products. The meaning of manufacturing natural products is in capturing the moment that nature created in the color and texture, thereby making it eternal.
Products made of only natural wood are not the optimal choice
Our clients always want to know what we would choose. Furniture made of natural wood has its advantages – its uniqueness and “eternity” are guaranteed. However, if a customer decides on furniture made of natural wood exclusively, they need to keep in mind the deficiencies of wood as natural material. The main disadvantage is its shrinkage, which can reach up to 15%, and is a result of relative air humidity as well as temperature. This definitely poses a threat to furniture, because it causes surface cracking of and makes furniture pieces less stable.
Before purchasing furniture, one needs to consider all advantages and disadvantages of the material as well as become familiar with the characteristics of materials and facilities where these large pieces will be placed.
